Paddington Central Design Route

In addition to the Design Districts, London Design Festival introduced Design Routes in 2017 to recognise smaller clusters of design activity in London. As a Route, participating partners are located within walking distance of one another. Together, the partners greatly expand the range of activities and events which take place within the Festival as a whole, ensuring that the route represents all areas of London and its creative and design communities.

Paddington Central Design Route

An urban waterside oasis, Paddington Central is one of London’s newest food and tech hotspots. Located next to Paddington Station and the iconic Grand Union Canal, it is home to inspirational public works of art, vibrant cultural events and ground-breaking architecture. Its community works smarter, stays active and lives well thanks to a backdrop that encourages businesses and people to flourish.

As part of the Design Route, the Royal College of Arts will be exploring residential, retail and lobby builds of the future with a photo exhibition and models across Paddington Central. Architects Snøhetta have created an innovative installation in Kingdom Street; artist designer Ido Garini’s Flipbook Garden can be discovered along the canal while the Sir Peter Blake-designed Darcie & May Green barges are graphic works of art and will be hosting floating dinners throughout the festival. Take part in artist Liz West’s mindfulness colour-workshops, Open House events, walking art tours and much more.
