Dubai Design District, (d3), a member of Dubai Holding, is a destination dedicated to design. Created to provide a home to the region’s growing number of designers, creatives and artists, d3 has fast become the hub for inspiration and innovation. Located in the heart of Dubai the thriving community provides a platform where individuals can unite, collaborate and create.

The Design Quarter at d3 is fully operational with over 450 creative partners and retailers.  Visitors can discover an authentic shopping and dining experience with unique lifestyle boutiques, fashion ateliers, art galleries, design workshops and home grown restaurants. d3 has also become a popular events space, attracting international crowds and artists to cultural exhibitions such as Dubai Design Week and Sole DXB.

After a successful chapter in Milan in April, UAE Design Stories: The Next Generation from The Emirates returns back with a new chapter during London Design Festival supporting the same objectives with the aim to expose the same group of designers to a new market and to connect them to industry experts.

For Chapter 2, entitled ‘Objects of the Past:Today’ invites designers to delve into the historical photographic archives of the UAE  and unearth pictorial history surrounding the regions nomadic roots.  Designers are tasked to interpret pieces from the archives into modern day designs, taking their inspirations from the UAEs ancestors. The designers will bring to life products and pieces using modern day design methodologies and processes, showcasing contemporary interpretations of items that held great value to those nomadic families for whom traveling through deserts and oceans was inherent, and living in ever changing landscapes was a lifestyle.

Designers will create unique commissions for London, each inspired by this very exquisite and treasured archive, all with a direct link back to the UAE.
