Exploring the relationship between sound and self with sound artist, designer and electronic musician, Yuri Suzuki, at Japan House London.

In collaboration with Yuri Suzuki, the Shop at Japan House London will feature two window installations commissioned by the artist and a booth dedicated to his work. Born in Tokyo in 1980, after his studies Suzuki worked with Maywa Denki, the Japanese electronic art unit, where he began to explore the relationship between music and technology. Collaboration is core to his practice, having worked with various musicians and commercial clients to push the boundaries between art, design, technology and sound, across the fields of both low and high technology. A specific highlight of the booth is Suzuki’s ‘Ambient Machine’, which allows visitors to design their own background ambience through the individual selection of thirty-two switches that control a variety of sounds and music. The machine is indicative of Suzuki’s practice, which explores the relationship between people and their environments, questioning how both music and sound evolve to create personal experiences. The booth will also feature a number of products designed by or produced in collaboration with Suzuki, including the ‘Ambient Machine’ which will be available to purchase. The window installation will run from 16 – 24 September and the Yuri Suzuki booth will be open from 16 September to 31 October.
