The V&A Sackler Centre acts as the Festival's epicentre, hosting the main public information point and the Festival press office, as well as an extensive programme of seminars, talks and workshops. Special events include Breakfast Talks With The Times, lunchtime events, talks and tours.
Throughout the museum a number of specially-commissioned temporary displays, installations and interventions appear for the duration of the Festival. This year's Festival installations by Max Lamb, Oskar Zieta and Stuart Haygarth draw on the museum's unique history and architecture, plus a unique giveway work by Paul Cocksedge Studio. The Sackler Centre, with Spaces curated by Suzanne Trocmé, will once again host an extensive programme of seminars, talks and special events, as well as a business and VIP space. Visitors will be able to take in the series of designs and interventions using a specially designed London Design Centre at the V&A map.
Also this year, the V&A entrance on Exhibition Road will be dedicated to the Festival, with a pop-up Festival café, the main public information point and press office. The architectural and design studio Retrouvius has been invited to design the space – the new nucleus of the Festival. The street-level space will be transformed into a distinctive destination for Festival visitors, press and those in need of some time to relax and reflect.
Framed by Stuart Haygarth
Staircase P, Architecture Galleries
Artist and designer Stuart Haygarth, working with leading framing company John Jones, has created a striking installation on the grand marble staircase leading to the V&A's Architecture galleries. Creating evocative stories through objects and architectural features is central to Haygarth's work, and this installation is no exception. Haygarth creates a cascade made with over 30 traditional and contemporary bespoke frame mouldings, spanning in lengths of almost 20 metres each, bringing this significant piece of the museum's architecture to life to create a dramatic landscape through which visitors can walk.

Contemporary craftsman Oskar Zieta has designed an installation for the Madejski Garden using a unique technology. Matching the form of the ellipse, the piece is made of large-scale elements more than 10m long and up to 5m high. To install Blow & Roll, welded steel pieces will be transported flat, rolled out, and inflated using water. Air will then be pumped into the gap between the steel plates to create perfectly shaped 3D objects.

Design Talk: Giulio Cappellini and British Design
Hochhauser Auditorium

Giulio Cappellini, Creative Director of the Poltrona Frau group, shares his views on creation, process and manufacturing in conversation with Yael Mer and Shay Alkali, of design duo Raw Edges, and Jasper Morrison, in an event chaired by Suzanne Trocmé. Since the mid 1980s, Milan-based Giulio Cappellini has continuously championed the work of British designers, discovering and fostering new talent from Tom Dixon to Michael Young and Barber Osgerby. His prescience and encouragement of adventurous manipulation of materials alongside rigorous editing has changed the face of British design irrevocably. The results span a quarter of a century yet remain consistently fresh and modern.
