As the UK's national academy for engineering, we bring together the country's most eminent engineers from all disciplines to promote excellence in the science, art and practice of engineering. Our strategic priorities are to enhance the UK's engineering capabilities, to celebrate excellence and inspire the next generation, and to lead debate by guiding informed thinking and influencing public policy.
Design is the fundamental discipline which underpins the wealth creating and societal potential of all engineering innovations. It is for this reason that the Academy places great emphasis on its design-related activities such as enriching the teaching curriculum of engineering design students; facilitating design projects and showcasing the very best final year student design projects from around the UK at our central London offices. We also run a comprehensive lecture programme throughout the year involving leading engineers, designers, entrepreneurs and business people who share their experiences and views on a range of techncial and business subjects.
In 2011 the Academy, in partnership with the Institution of Engineering Designers (IED), Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3), will be showcasing the very best final year student design projects from across the UK and providing an opportunity for those involved to present to a panel of business angels with a view to securing funding to develop the project into a commercially viable project. Seven regional events will be held throughout the UK identifying the best projects to showcase at the final to be held during the London Design Festival.
The final will be taking place at the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining, 1 Carlton House Terrace, London SW1Y 5DB
