Partners: emerge

Emerge 2011 is no ordinary graduate showcase but a discovery of graphic design, through graphic design. Using the work of twelve graduates from 2011, the exhibition highlights the different roles of graphic design in our day to day lives, both as designers, and observers and presents them as an engaging and exciting experience.

Now in its third year, Emerge, the graphic design graduate showcase of the London Design Festival presents a selection of graphic design graduates who have been personally recommended by leading members of the graphic design industry, including Adrian Shaughnessy, Bunch, Crispin Finn and Wieden + Kennedy to name a few.

Emerge also continues an ongoing relationship with Pentagram, with a competition brief set and judged by Dominic Lippa in which each graduate was tasked to explore a piece of writing and typographically express it onto parts of London itself. The designs will be on display in the exhibition and the award, a work placement at Pentagram, will be presented to the winner by Dominic Lippa. 

Sponsored by Indigo Mile, advertising and design recruitment agency, on Friday 23rd September there will be a day of portfolio critiques and inspirational talks from leading industry members, followed by a drinks reception and the presentation of the Emerge award.

Ben James, Creative Director at jotta who have been working closely with Emerge this year says, “as jotta was founded in partnership with the University of the Arts London to promote emerging artists and designers, working with Emerge has given us the opportunity to really focus in on providing support to graduating graphic designers. As part of this, we’ll be covering all the events, the speakers and interviewing attendees from the industry about everything from practical advice for graduates though to industry trends and what the future holds. Coffee morning, meet the graduates, in association with jotta.

Exhibiting graduates will be on hand to show you around and there will be coffee and cakes on hand, served from exhibitor Lucinda Ireland’s Type House typographic coffee shop.

Emerge was set up in 2009 by London College of Communication MA students, Holly McConnell and Jane Trustram and runs from 22nd to 25th September as part of Tent London at 4 Wilkes Street Gallery, E1 6QF.
