Donna Walkers interest in furniture lies within the history and memories embedded in existing pieces, and their relationship to the users, treating them as containers of memories, and finding ways to keep these objects in our homes and out of landfill. Each piece is unique and lovingly made by the designer, and aims to critique the tendency of consumerist society to dispose of functional and useful objects in favour of new and more fashionable versions. During London Design Festival, Walker will be showcasing her new collection, aMEND. Following on from previous work questioning the mass-produced, aMEND concentrates on the existing beauty, form, and craftmanship in old and discarded pieces of furniture. These once redundant pieces are lovingly transformed with a contemporary twist, in what can only be described as a colourful blend of decades. The collection consists of a selection of furniture and lighting.
