At a dinner in the crypt of St Paul's Cathedral last night the London Design Medal was awarded to Ron Arad.
Accepting the award, the great Tel Aviv-born designer said, "Thank you London - I couldn't imagine doing whatever I'm doing anywhere else in the world".
In another moving moment the London Design Festival presented a Lifetime Achievement Award to Vidal Sassoon, inspirational entrepreneur and pioneer of the bob cut, who spoke of his origins as a 14-year-old apprentice barber in East London.
