ME LONDON HOTEL Drop in the Ocean by Brodie Neill

Brodie Neill has created a mesmerising nature-driven installation for the 100-feet high Atrium of the luxurious iconic Foster+Partners designed ME London, the official hotel partner to London Design Festival.

Neill’s site-specific presentation uses the material Ocean Terrazzo, which he developed for the Australian Pavilion at the 2016 London Design Biennale, and confronts the problem of the world’s plastic waste within our oceans. 'The installation is a continuation of my work drawing attention to the global issue of ocean pollution through contemporary design, and upcycling waste streams to create innovative materials'. Neill explains. 'Exactly a year ago, while standing in the Atrium at ME London, I was inspired to create an installation which used both the unique height of the prism-like Atrium and the state-of-the-art video projectors that video map its white Carrara walls. It was a 'what if' moment that quickly gathered momentum into an installation concept in which a drop of water would trigger an animation of a roaring wave – all perfectly synced via Arduino technology. The single drop symbolises the smallest essence of nature but with momentous consequences.'
