In the dark Crypt Gallery of the St Pancras Parish Church, a selection of Dutch designers shines their light in the darkness. Arnout Visser, Morgan Ruben, Marc de Groot, and Bernotat&Co exhibit their latest light designs at the second edition of Enlightened Design.

Visiting the London Design Festival and looking for design that clearly stands out? Enlightened Design steps out of the shadow of big trade shows and puts the spotlight on design with an illuminated quality that is not to be found elsewhere. The group exhibition in The Crypt Gallery of St Pancras Parish Church by Dutch curator David Heldt showcases work from Dutch design studios, among others, Arnout Visser, Bernotat&Co, Morgan Ruben, and Marc de Groot, from Thursday 21 to Sunday 24 September. Quality is not only to be found in the presented objects but also in the gallery-like presentation that transcends the volatile and busy trade floors of today's international design fairs.

Enlightened Design II is the follow-up to the successful first edition held last September in an untouched and slightly decrepit 18th-century Georgian merchant house in Spitalfields. The unexpected, anachronistic experience of walking through the rather darkened space, with its uneven floors and peeling paint, created the effect Heldt intended: 'to slow people down, arouse their curiosity, and make them feel at home.' This year's edition has found an equally cinematographic and untouched location: the crypt of St Pancras Parish Church. 'This space was chosen to make the very most of this selection of lighting. I am looking forward to the result; for example, how Arnout Visser's enormous glass mushrooms flourish in the serene, damp space.'

Connecting the Dots is an organisation publishing and presenting Dutch design during large international design events.

We see the cultural discourse of design as important as the commercial value of the trade; Connecting the Dots connects both worlds. We do this by publishing magazines, hosting debates and organising presentations and exhibitions.
