Anthropologie Kings Road will feature a new exhibition Balancing Tensions by ceramicist and textile artist Zoë Hillyard. Zoë is known for her work in ceramic patchwork; an innovative process whereby broken ceramics are reconstructed using fabric and hand-stitching.

Her exquisite and painstakingly rebuilt vessels make reference to Japanese ceramic mending traditions and capture the flawed beauty of preserved archaeological artefacts.

Zoë is interested in the journeys objects make and the relationships we build with possessions. Having spent time living in Mongolia, she is inspired by the example set by nomadic culture.

Zoë will be in residence at the gallery during London Design Festival where she will invite members of the public to come and stitch an art piece with her.
What do you treasure?

In considering our relationship with consumer culture, visitors to the exhibition are invited to hand-stitch onto fragments of silk, making a mark about what they value in life. Zoë Hillyard will be in the gallery using the stitched fabrics to mend a broken ceramic vessel, combining people’s ideas to create a collaborative version of one of her ceramic patchwork pieces. Zoë will be working in the gallery during the 16th -17th and 21st - 24th September, with work-in-progress on display throughout the live event.

Balancing Tensions by Zoë Hillyard runs from Thursday 7th September to Sunday 22nd October at The Gallery at Anthropologie Kings Road.
