TRAIL UPDATE: Ruth Martin stars in The London Art Book Fair at Whitechapel Gallery

The Toothpaste Book featured in Cockpit's 25^th Birthday Trail is just one in Ruth Martin's library of beautifully hand crafted books that are truly interactive and thoroughly enchanting. 

The books answer to the OED's definition of a 'Portable written or printed treatise filling a number of sheets fastened together.' But the treatise may be anything from a short rhyme about toothpaste or the regrets of a batch of broken biscuits.

Each piece is a miniature work of art. The printing is produced with painstakingly intricate hand cut rubber stamps, they are hand sewn and constructed with playful and perplexing hand folding methods.
