In order to encourage visitors to the London Design Festival in the Shoreditch area, 10 venues have decided to open late on TUESDAY 22 SEPTEMBER, to launch individual exhibitions and present exciting new work.
All 10 venues will open at 6pm, and everyone is welcome. Absolutely no need to RSVP.
Maps will be available from participating venues.
1. SCP - Kiosk New York meets SCP London
New York based design store Kiosk will install a temporary shop designed by Michael Marriott on the ground floor of SCP's Shoreditch showroom. Meanwhile upstairs, SCP will present furniture designs by British designers PearsonLloyd from SCP's 2009 Collection.
2. Rocket Gallery - Book a Table : preview
An exhibition of Coffee Tables made exclusively for Rocket by contemporary designers, architects and artists shown with a collection of minimalist Artists' Books – historical and contemporary – by a diverse group of artists, designers, photographers and writers. Designers and artists present.
3. YCN - Made in YCN
Will see an invited group of creative talents (some individually and some collaboratively) produce new objects for exclusive show and sale at 72 Rivington Street, the physical home of YCN. For the event we will bring together practitioners from different disciplines, reflecting YCN's broader activities, spanning design, illustration and advertising.
4. Lifestylebazaar
Lifestylebazaar, in collaboration with Children With Aids Charity, will present nine Louis Ghost chairs (designed by Philippe Starck for Kartell) that have been customised and reinterpreted by designers and artists from diverse creative disciplines.
5. Caravan - In Miniature
Caravan has invited wallpaper artist Deborah Bowness to play with scale. Visit the shop to view Deborah's prints in miniature - within a doll's house - presented in true Caravan-style.The complete collection of hand printed wallpapers will be available for sale during the event.
6. Mathmos
Mathmos unveils its brand new product range, Fireflow - the Worlds first tea-light powered Lava lamps. Fireflow are the first Lava lamps Mathmos have launched since Fluidium by Ross Lovegrove 10 years ago, and to celebrate this they will also be launching their Vintage Exhibition.They will show a range of vintage Lava lamps, memorabilia and images from their 46 year history as the inventors of the Lava lamp.
7. SDC Gallery - Tea Potty?
An exhibition set around contemporary designer tea-wares and the high summer tea party in the garden in the most explorative and flamboyant manners. Works by 30 artists made either in ceramics, glass or textiles plus jewellery that enhances the vivid colours and forms this party brings.
8. Studio Ilse at Leila’s Shop - Seating for Eating
Two settles, three benches, two stools. Furniture that brings people together. Reassuringly familiar but carefully detailed. Each piece is crafted in solid chestnut, with copper feet. Sit on it at Leila's.
9. De La Espada - PRODUCT Preview
An exhibition of 18 new products by four collaborating design studios including Autoban from Istanbul,
Leif.designpark from Japan, and British designers, Matthew Hilton and Studioilse. A diverse selection of furniture united by premium natural materials, modern forms and emotional dialogue.
10. Jasper Morrison Ltd. Shop - Jugs, Jars & Pitchers
The Jasper Morrison shop will hold it's first public exhibition, consisting of several examples of glassware, ceramic and stainless steel with the intention of exploring the essential nature of a time-honoured aspect of daily life!
