The ‘Design Collection’ at the celebrated Matsuya department store in Tokyo’s Ginza region has undergone a refurbishment. A trusty shelving system has been deployed.
The new shop was designed by Naoto Fukasawa. His decision to include our 606 Universal Shelving system ensures a retail environment that is attractive, adaptable and, of course, long-living.
The Design Collection was established in 1955, a collaboration between the Japan Design Committee and the Matsuya department store, with the aim of promoting excellence in design.
The main space of the shop is occupied by the ‘Library of Good Design’, where contemporary and classic products share shelves.
Elsewhere, a shelving system mounted on a stunning wooden wall forms the ‘Salon of Good Design’ – a place to browse books and periodicals about art, architecture and design.
An exhibition about Dieter Rams and Vitsœ will take place at the department store’s Gallery1953 in early 2012.
