OPERATIONS DIRECTOR (MATERNITY COVER)

ABOUT

London Design Festival is looking for an Operations Director to work across our activities in 2018.

London Design Festival: 15 – 23 September 2018
First staged in 2003, the London Design Festival is one of the world's most important annual design events. The Festival programme is made up of over 400 events and exhibitions staged by hundreds of organisations across the design spectrum and from around the world. The Festival acts as an umbrella organisation, promoting all of the activity across our communication channels. In addition to this activity spread across the city, the London Design Festival produce an extensive range of events and projects at key locations such as the hub venue at the Victoria and Albert Museum and Trafalgar Square.
 

THE ROLE

London Design Festival is looking for an experienced Operations Director with the capacity to coordinate and manage our activity during September 2018. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in the operational delivery of projects and exhibitions, from inception to realisation, providing strategic direction and instruction to the project delivery team and working with a number of different stakeholders, contractors and third parties. The chosen candidate will be an integral part of the 2018 senior management team.
 

KEY TASKS  
PLANNING

  • Oversea the operational budgets
  • Ensure timelines and deadlines are met
  • Managing the internal and external project delivery teams
  • Improve and implement systems and process for the smooth delivery of all activity
  • Working with the other relevant departments to recruit and contract staff
  • Report on status and progress to the senior management team
  • Manage key external relationships with stakeholders when required
  • Oversee and support the project managements teams to ensure compliance and best practice in relation to project Health and Safety, CDM, Insurance and Planning and Permissions.
  • Liaise and develop positive working relationships key with contractors
  • On site management and support during events

 

KEY SKILLS

7-8 years minimum relevant experience
Good understanding of the project management and logistic processes including: H&S and CDM considerations, site and operation logistics, installation and de-installation processes and event management
Experience managing multi-exhibitor exhibitions and high profile public installations
A keen organisational sense with meticulous attention to detail
Ability to think clearly and solve problems effectively under pressure
Strong leadership skills and experience in managing a diverse team
Great interpersonal skills

PROJECT MANAGER

ABOUT

The London Design Biennale is looking for an experienced Project Manager to drive development of the flagship international design exhibition.

London Design Biennale: 4 – 23 September 2018                                                                                
Following the enormous success of the inaugural exhibition, the London Design Biennale will again occupy all the exhibition spaces at Somerset House in September 2018. The Biennale will provide a prestigious, global stage for the world’s leading contemporary design and design-led innovation, creativity and research disciplines to present up to fifty national installations, from across six continents.
 

THE ROLE

The London Design Biennale are looking for a Project Manager with the capacity to coordinate and manage a world class multi-exhibitor exhibition at Somerset House. The ideal candidate will have experience in project delivery, from inception to realisation, providing strategic direction and instruction to the project delivery team and working with a number of different exhibiting parties. The chosen candidate will be an integral part of the organisation and will be forging new relationships with our key partners.

KEY TASKS  
PLANNING

  • Assess individual exhibitor project feasibility
  • Review and improve systems to streamline project management
  • Manage and coordinate budgets, timelines and schedules
  • Oversee the request and compilation of required install information, including Health and Safety CDM, RAMS and insurance documents
  • Liaise and develop positive working relationships with contractors
  • Coordinate between Somerset House, contractors and the internal team
  • Ensure project development is to schedule

KEY TASKS 
ONSITE DELIVERY

  • Create and manage onsite delivery schedule
  • Act as main point of contact for onsite contractors
  • Troubleshoot installation issues with exhibitors and contractors
  • Monitor making good works
  • Managing post event debriefs and reporting

KEY SKILLS

5-6 years minimum relevant experience
Good understanding of the project management and logistic processes including: H&S and CDM considerations, site and operation logistics, installation and de-installation processes and event management
Experience managing multi-exhibitor installations
A keen organisational sense with meticulous attention to detail
Ability to think clearly and solve problems effectively under pressure
Great interpersonal skills
Ability to work well in a small team while being able to manage and prioritise your own workload
Ability to interpret install plans

DESIRABLE SKILLS

Understanding of planning submissions
Understanding of fabrication & construction methods
Computer literate on Mac with knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Microsoft office, CAD software and any project management software a bonus
