GEENEN + HOON
17th Sept - 5th Nov 2011
GEENEN + HOON exhibits new work by furniture designers Bram Geenen (NL) and Il Hoon Roh (GB).
The Aram Gallery brings together two designers whose work appears similar at first sight. Geenen + Hoon begin with complementary starting points; both are heavily influenced by the architecture of Antoni Gaudi for example. However, they have almost opposite ways of working, employing different techniques to arrive at superficially alike conclusions.
The exhibition uses Geenen + Hoon’s works to show how two designers interpret similar influences. It presents a succinct step by step journey from initial sketch to full size piece, so as to highlight crossovers in their methods. This methodical approach to the presentation of their work intends to demystify how these designers design, and, it allows for explanations of the materials and processes they use at each stage of their development.
We use this exhibition to capture a moment when two independently working designers’ ways of working overlap. The Aram Gallery is keen to look at the design decisions Geenen + Hoon have made which have led their practices to converge so interestingly. Of course, we cannot know where their work will lead next, whether their paths will continue to intersect one another, but we are excited by where they are now.
Full size exhibits will be complemented by maquettes and prototyped details.
