If you’ve yet to discover Contemporary Applied Arts’ fascinating exhibition space and shop in London’s West End, be sure to pay a visit in the run up to Christmas.
For this year’s Christmas Show, CAA invited all their members to participate in a collaborative seasonal selling show based on the theme of gifting. Each participant is asked to produce a series of five limited edition ‘decorations’, which should be representative of their work and retail at just £50.
Work is in progress but highlights will include imaginative hanging decorations in silver with gold plated detail and laser-cut brass from jewellers, Noon Mitchelhill and Diana Greenwood and in natural found objects from willow artist, Caroline Sharp. There will be decorative ‘Christmas fruits’ in soda fired clay, combined with exotic woods from ceramicist, Ruthanne Tudball, playful creations in recycled materials representing our favourite Christmas consumables from sustainable jeweller, Kristina Kitchener and stamped and decorated ceramic greeting cards mounted on reclaimed floorboards from ceramicist, Elspeth Owen. Also to look forward to, from mixed media artist, Shellie Holden there will be stunning, star shaped decorations in appliquéd paper maps, combined with fabric and stitch and from textile designer, Neil Bottle, a series of richly printed cushions combining traditional Indian sari fabrics with his own distinctive digital prints.
Opening times: Monday - Saturday 10.00 - 6.00pm
