Philosophical Toys is a collaborative agency dedicated to the promotion of critical thinking in design.
A Stitch In Time showcases design strategies exploring intangible knowledge embedded in Indian and European master crafts.

The philosophical toy, a device that has traditionally educated and entertained, is the starting point for this exhibition of contemporary design. These are projects that use enchantment and estrangement to question the ordinary and even bring about social change.

On Saturday 21st September the Philosophical Toys workshop will inaugurate a collaborative venture dedicated to the promotion of critical thinking in design. The aim is to produce exhibitions, films, a website, blog and related publications. Our first meeting focuses on the exhibition and the question: “What is the problem to which these projects are the answer?”
Places are limited for this workshop, please contact showspace@ultraindigo.com for a booking.

ultra-indigo presents ‘A Stitch in Time’, a showcase for design strategies exploring intangible knowledge embedded in Indian and British master-crafts. British silk weaving meets traditional European upholstery and sumptuous Indian Kantha embroidery in the ‘Nellum Pastille’ contemporary seating collection. Hand-loomed Kashmiri cashmere is translated through European couture dying and pattern cutting into softly structured ‘KOATs’. Together, the collections celebrate Indian craft at its highest level in dialogue with European luxury and design. The exhibition focuses on the design strategies that facilitated the collaborations, drawing out the intangible knowledge between different cultural traditions.

PLEASE NOTE: 'Philosophical Toys meets A Stitch In Time' is open by appointment only, please contact showspace@ultraindigo.com for a booking.
