Martha Freud Design looks forward to launching a new series of light and object design this September, in conjunction with the London Design Festival. The work centres on objects that compliment personal, interior spaces; reflecting on how we relate to ourselves and our environment.
In an attempt to understand the world we live in and the experiences had, we have an inherent desire to organize and label - to have surroundings visually clear in order to aid mental clarity. Items get placed in boxes because of their importance, their beauty or because they are under captivity. And there is also emotional and intellectual processing - the sorting and categorizing of daily occurrences. Tidy home, tidy mind - or is it the other way round?
It is said that emotional compartmentalizing has become a crucial part of how some organize their busy and multi-layered lives - and their ability to be everything to everyone. By putting events and experiences in a 'mental' box we can move on, but how these memories are packed and the labels they are given is so personal, insightful and unique. The storage range developed by Martha Freud for her instillation in Camley Street Natural Park is inspired by this concept, and the lights influenced by mans desire to capture, box and label.
Martha Freud's unique style and her interest in not only the natural world, but also in human nature's behaviors will combine in September with the outstanding beauty of one of London's most special nature reserves. Celebrating London Wildlife Trust’s 30th anniversary, an installation of works will be staged at the Trust’s Camley Street Natural Park. The Camley Street Natural Park is two unique acres of wild green space moments away from bustling Kings Cross.
