Real-world advice for accelerating your design business

Thurs, 6pm - 9pm

Free Event

Talk / Seminar

'Maker Connections' is a free event in which to network with other makers, hardware entrepreneurs/enthusiasts, designers, manufacturers, funders, product development experts and digital startups.

Whilst there's been an explosion in equity funding for UK software businesses, product-focused businesses have been somewhat left behind. With the establishment of the British Design Fund, as well as a variety of hardware-focused Accelerators and Incubators, the tides are turning. CRL's Design Festival event will consist of a range of industry experts offering practical, tangible tips from industry experts on how to fund, market and develop your idea or business.

As well as presentations, we hope this will be an opportunity to get know our team and residents better, as well as further immerse yourself in the world of hardware. We will also be featuring several of our CRL members, who will be offering insight into their product development journey, from the early design conceptual stages to manufacture, sales, and further investment. This will be an opportunity to learn from those that have turned their ideas into their careers, as well as network with a room full of other creators, designers, funders, marketers and BD experts.

Pizza and beer will be provided throughout the evening!

Central Research Laboratory

The Central Research Laboratory is the UK's first start-up accelerator and co-working space for hardware oriented businesses based in Hayes, West London. Part makerspace, part co-working facility and part business incubator, we accommodate a diverse community of designers, entrepreneurs, consultants and others.

All residents benefit from our strong commitment to collaboration and community and have access to a light-touch programme of mentoring, technical advice, exhibitions and events that provide the inspiration and practical support early-stage businesses need.

We also have a more intensive programme, a 6 month Accelerator, aimed at high-growth hardware-oriented startups, that covers product development, market development, business development, investment readiness and crowdfunding support. We offer overseas trips to build essential manufacturing partnerships, help build viable cost and business models and enable each team get truly ready for manufacture, sales and further investment.

What makes CRL unique is that it’s designed to support entrepreneurs at every stage of their journey – from concept development, through prototyping, first batch production and beyond – with mentoring and investment provided along the way. For those building hardware, or creative businesses that want to be based in west london, the CRL is a great place to call home.
