Made in…(The Made-in Collective) Shop & Show, East Gallery, Brick Lane
The Made in… Design Collective present their debut exhibition of quietly reassuring design at the East Gallery on Brick Lane. The exhibition space and shop offer visitors an opportunity to touch, play, experience and buy the work and breaks the stereotype of the stuffy do-not-touch attitude of the generic-design-exhibition.
The nine young designers’ highly individual and fresh approaches to design both compliment and contrast with each other but are unified by a common concern with appropriate use of materials, intelligent making and relevance to daily context.
Their bright, engaging and accessible designs are developed in a variety of materials including cast bronze, spun metal, industrial felt and turned wood. Collectively, the presented work celebrates a practical and conceptual approach to the design and development of product and furniture design solutions.
From jewelry to the development of manufacturing systems, Made in… provides a thoughtful and insightful moment amongst this year’s Design Festival as well as an antidote to the loud and bombastic designs that have been so prevalent in recent years.
