London Design Festival Breakfast talks: Marcel Wanders

An unmissable opportunity to hear one of the world's best known and charismatic designers, Marcel Wanders, best known for being able to combine clean lines and functionality with a sense of adventure. Marcel Wanders’ first attracted attention with his iconic Knotted Chair produced for Droog Design in 1996. He now designs for the biggest European contemporary design manufacturers such as B&B Italia, Bisazza, Poliform, Moroso, Flos, Boffi, Cappellini, Droog Design and Moooi of which he is also founder, art director and co-owner. Founded in 2000, Moooi has grown into an internationally renowned design label.

Additionally, Marcel Wanders works on architectural and interior design projects, including the Mondrian Hotel in Miami - part of the Morgans Hotel Group - and the new Villa Moda store in the World Trade Center in Bahrain. Various designs of Marcel Wanders have been selected for some of the most important museums around the world including the V&A of London and New York’s MOMA.

Marcel Wanders has been elected Elle Decoration’s International Designer of the Year and Man of the Year by MAN Magazine. Washington Post calls him “the design world’s favorite star”, Business Week selected him among Europe’s 25 leaders of change ‘The Stars of Europe’ and The Observer wrote, “Marcel Wanders studio is one of the most inspiring powerhouses of multi-disciplinary design active today”.

“I’m a sort of amateur,” says Wanders, “and amateurs aren’t so sure about things so they investigate and bring new ideas that experts might overlook. I work with durability in design - products worth bonding with for a lifetime. I have an overall respect for ourselves and the world, and I think this respect is the basis of good design.”
