The literary legends of Bankside will come alive through a series of installations by master calligrapher Paul Antonio. Historic Borough High Street, one of London’s oldest thoroughfares, was walked by Chaucer, Dickens and Shakespeare. Quotes from these writers will be inscribed in large format on windows along the street using the letterforms of the period.

See scribe Paul Antonio in action in a modern context, creating the installations live as he paints the ancient letters directly on to window panes along Borough High Street. You can catch him live lettering on Saturday 16 September from midday and on Tuesday 19 September from 2pm. The installations will be in place throughout the festival, walk the calligraphy trail to see every one.

Saturday installations include: Natwest (10 Southwark Street), Viapath (Window on White Hart Yard), Heeltap (White Hart Yard), HSBC (28 Borough High Street), St Christopher's Inn (165 Borough High Street), Premier Inn (135 Borough High Street), Richmond Pharmacology (1A Newcomen Street) and John Harvard Library (211 Borough High Street)

Tuesday installations include: Pearlfinders (166 Borough High Street), The Office Group (201 Borough High Street), Royal College of Occupational Therapists (106-114 Borough High Street), Proun (90 Borough High Street), Great Portland Estates (Kings Head Yard), and Market Hall at Borough Market.

On Tuesday 19 September, Paul Antonio will also host a free talk at the National Trust's The George Inn, taking you on a journey through the 2,500 year history of the alphabet. This large-scale lettering lecture-demonstration will show historical and contemporary calligraphy, taking a closer looks at the scripts of Shakespeare, Chaucer and Dickens. You'll also be introduced to different aspects of writing with a variety of tools and materials, both traditional and modern. RSVP via the Eventbrite link.
