RCA at LDF 2011

Royal College of Art

The Royal College of Art presents yet more groundbreaking work by its staff and students at this LDF must-see event.

The RCA will be hosting several exhibitions as part of this year’s London Design Festival:

The Problem Comes First: An exhibition of design research projects from the Helen Hamlyn Centre for Design at the RCA. Inspired by a famous Danish Design Council touring show from the 1980s, this exhibition will demonstrate how the act of problem-definition by designers is critical to addressing key social challenges related to healthcare, ageing populations and changing cities.

Sustain is a new selection of shortlisted entries for the RCA’s new Sustain Award, which showcases sustainable objects, thinking and solutions from across the art and design disciplines.

A new version of the EPFL+ECAL Lab's award-winning exhibition on augmented reality, Give Me More, which also includes a project by RCA alumnus Yuri Suzuki.

Foroba Yelen - Mali social lighting:  Innovation Design Engineering students present design concepts and proto-types from a self-sufficient street lamps and public lighting project for the Malian village of Cinzana. The aim was to design and build self-sufficient and affordable street lamps to enhance social and economic development for the rural area.  With sponsorship from the eLand Foundation and expertise from Philips and Arup, the project explored a combination of lighting technologies and locally available human and material resources, within the philosophy of Global technologies for local energies.
