Ticketed Event

An exhibition of over 120 original illustrations celebrating 100 years of Ladybird Books.

Rediscover the genius of Ladybird Books in this exhibition of over 120 original illustrations from some of the best-loved Ladybird titles.

In celebration of 100 years of Ladybird, Ladybird by Design explores the evocative illustration and compelling design that made the books such a hit across generations of readers.

Ladybird by Design features iconic images from popular Ladybird series including People At Work, Shopping With Mother, and Key Words, as well as rare photographs and correspondence.

House of Illustration is also hosting a series of fantastic Ladybird-inspired events to accompany the exhibition. On Tuesday 22 September, come and examine what there is to learn from the way Ladybird books taught us in Educated by Ladybird, an expert panel discussion chaired by Professor Lawrence Zeegen.

And on Friday 25 September come to House of Illustration for a ‘last chance to see’ Ladybird late opening. Bar, music, gallery activities and more!
6-10pm - visit the website to book.

Opened in July 2014 at the heart of the King's Cross regeneration area, it is the place to see, learn about and enjoy illustration in all its forms; from advertisements to animation, picture books to political cartoons and scientific drawings to fashion design.
