London is a city full of visible and invisible layers of information and of digital and analogue spaces. New technologies have prompted designers to question the use of traditional communication methods (e.g. posters, billboards), as well as the ways in which design and motion might be more effective in its mediation of information. The way information is sent, received and mediated presents new challenges and opportunities.
Now in its third year, the intent of this lecture programme is to make visible the different ways in which design and architecture interfaces with digital and analogue technologies and how we might begin to address information networks for the 21st Century.
Our Speakers:
Lucy Bullivant is an architecture curator, author, critic and advisor. The author of Responsive Environments (V&A Contemporary) and other titles on interactive architecture and contemporary urban design, she has curated exhibitions for Vitra Design Museum, the Milan Triennale and the British Council and lectures internationally.
Tim Johnson, product manager, Kizoom Software: pioneers in delivering mobile information services for the public transport industry. From the earliest WAP sites to popular apps for organizations such as thetrainline.com, Kizoom Software has always focused on good design and usability to ensure services are of genuine value rather than just box-ticking exercises. His talk will explore trends in mobile technologies as they relate to public transport information, and will discuss experiences from recent mobile web and mobile app projects. Tim will consider data freedom issues, changing traveller behaviour, and matching services to the needs of different populations and geographical contexts, drawing lessons from the good, the bad, and the plain silly.
