Dr Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love The Bomb (PG)
Kubrick, faced with the absurdity of nuclear annihilation, decided to make it a black comedy. Peter Sellars takes three roles (he was originally to play the Texan pilot as well but injury prevented him) and Kubrick so enjoyed his ad-libbing that much of it stayed in the film, while the sublimely ironic ending was a second thought after he’d shot a climactic custard-pie fight.
