‘Craft and Ingenuity’ showcases the latest emerging talent in craft. This will include multidisciplinary designer Sam Bazeley, who will present an immersive introduction into his rigorous approach to research and design, and flair for the narrative language of craft.

London Design Festival has become one of the most celebrated international design events, with a global audience descending on London to talent spot and discover new work. This year The New Craftsmen is proud to leverage our growing reputation within the design community to highlight the work of emerging new talents by handing over our Mayfair space to showcase their skills.

Taking centre stage in our showroom will be an installation piece entitled PACIFIC ZIGZAG by multidisciplinary maker Sam Bazeley – who will be presenting a series of products from lighting and furniture to decorative works, each inspired by the Pacific landscape of his Fijian heritage. Sam combines a rigorous approach to research and design, with a passionate interest in the narrative language of craftsmanship, and we are excited to reveal the creative atmosphere through which he will present his diverse interests during this global design event.

We will also be introducing a collection of sculptural side tables in cast jesmonite by new designer Malgorzata Bany, as well as a selection of vessels by ceramic carver and wood turner Leah Jensen, who combines hand-carved porcelain with turned burnt wood to create exceptional vessels of dramatic contrast and refinement.
The New Craftsmen regularly seeks out and collaborates with makers and designers who push the boundaries of their craft through innovative use of materials and process, underpinned by a rigorous and thoughtful approach to design and concept. “Our mission is to launch and enable makers who demonstrate a real aptitude for ingenuity and innovation; who combine a deep understanding of material and process with a contemporary flair for design-led environments. It’s a pleasure to be able to support the ambitions of our makers and we’re excited to see the ways in which this group of designer-makers will leverage and utilise this opportunity to present something really extraordinary” – Natalie Melton, The New Craftsmen

CRAFT AND INGENUITY and PACIFIC ZIGZAG will run from Monday 14 September to Saturday 17 October.

We will also be open each day during London Design Festival (19 – 27 September) apart from Sundays.

The New Craftsmen curates, commissions and sells unique contemporary objects that are rooted in craftsmanship and narrative. Spanning furniture, lighting, textiles, gifts, ceramics and decorative accessories, our range is made by a network of over 100 makers across the British Isles.

We collaborate with our makers to refine and redefine the value of craft. We do this by developing exclusive collections that are available through our Mayfair space and online, by inviting leading talent of the craft world to develop bodies of work for shows and exhibitions, and by overseeing bespoke commissions.

Our ambition is to meet the growing appetite for contemporary craft and design, and in doing so transform the market place for craft internationally.
