Exhibition

As the camera fades from view, this display brings the camera itself into focus, including early images of photographers with their cameras, photographs featuring cameras by Eugène Atget, Lee Friedlander, André Kertesz, Phillipe Halsman, Weegee and others.

More photographs are being made today than ever before, but most are made with mobile phones, not stand-alone cameras. As the camera fades from view, this display brings the camera itself into focus, including early images of photographers with their cameras, photographs featuring cameras by Eugène Atget, Lee Friedlander, André Kertesz, Phillipe Halsman, Weegee and others.

Our temporary displays complement our permanent collections; there are many free displays around the V&A. They range in size from a single case to a room.
