Audile Interpretation workshop

Vitra

An exploration into Sound and environment.

Audile- one who’s mental imagery is auditory rather than visual

How much of the world do you experience through sound? If you closed your eyes what do you ‘see’? Notice that you can ‘see’ behind you, that your environment is changing far more rapidly than your visual one.

As architects and designers our rational is almost entirely ocular centric, taking over our other senses. Led by architects ODA in association with sound artist Craig Vear and designer Andrew Lock in conjunction with Blueprint and as part of the London Design Festival we will hold a series of one day workshops for students and professionals to explore this world of the sonic experience.

During the workshop we will focus on how we experience space through sound; what kind of shapes enhance or restrict, what kind of textures absorb or reflect? We will move on to create listening devices that capture, re-interpret and re-imagine our environment, perhaps generating their own sound in response.
