Walks / Tours

With a focus on iconic pieces from across the 18th - 20th centuries, the many specialist dealers have amassed a following of interior designers and serious collectors, as well as novice shoppers and the odd celebrity! Walk the Church Street Design Trail and take part in Alfies' in store events.

Alfies will run a day of special events on Thursday, 24 September, consisting of talks, exhibitions, demonstrations and workshops. Join Emilia & Luis at their Thirteen Upholstery Workshop for an upholstery demonstration – watch as they give well worn furniture a dashing new lease of life. Leslie of Tin Tin Collectables will be hosting a talk about the influence of politics on fashion design through the ages, and a 20th century design exhibition will run throughout the centre, taking in The Moderns, Matt Mitchell London and many more Alfies dealers. There will also be a fantastic tour of the Church Street shops organised by Leon Young, which will give a fascinating insight into the range of design pieces on the street and how many of these dealers launched their businesses on Church Street. Not to mention that Sam Gullam of Lacock Gullam will discussing how he conceived the design for Church Street’s new market sign posts. The signs reflect the vibrant nature of the street market and at the same time draw some influence from the modernist nature of the antiques sold by the local shops and Alfies. Many more events to be confirmed!

We know this event will keep you busy, so to quench your thirst we will offer each customer a glass of bubbly. If you’re feeling peckish, our Roof Top Kitchen café has an exquisite selection of handcrafted cakes, teas and coffee, or if you fancy something a bit more substantial check out their mouth-watering daily specials.

Alfies Antique Market

Alfies (formerly Jordan's department store) has a strikingly executed Egyptian-style art deco façade, a rooftop café and around 75 antique dealers trading there. Find a huge range of antique and vintage goods including vintage fashion and accessories, modernist furniture, costume jewellery and 20th century decorative arts. Bennie Gray snapped up this magnificent building in the 1970s and opened Alfies in 1976. The original Jordan’s branded tiling can still be seen in the Thirteen Upholstery entrance of Alfies.
