Brixton Design Trail returned with a mission to establish design as part of the everyday by using streets and public spaces as a canvas for art and expression. Under a theme of Love is Power, Brixton presented an inspiring programme which revealed a vibrant community rich in creative talent, identity, culture and heritage.

Brixton Design Trail’s theme of Love is Power communicated the positive potency of love in promoting acceptance, celebrating difference and nurturing a strong community. Brixton Design Trail was on a mission to place art and design into everyday life, to uplift the environment in a series of lasting creative interventions which animated the town centre.

An inspiring programme of installations, exhibitions, workshops, talks and performances put a spotlight on their vibrant creative community. Headline installations and events were conceived to provoke dialogue and interaction, and several became permanent artworks to create long term positive change.

Established local destinations such as Pop Brixton, Brixton Village Market and The Black Cultural Archives hosted installations, as well as emerging venues including a collection of maker workspaces and new creative hub, The Department Store. This year they also transformed an unloved corner in the heart of Brixton into a showcase space for up and coming design talent.

Music, eating and drinking were a key part of Brixton’s programme; their food and drink partners had special discounts and offers during London Design Festival.
