"Our mission was to search for the way materials ought to be"

This year's Tent at the Old Truman Brewery features this superb temporary restaurant/cafe, created by London's Vonsung design studio. Creative director Joseph Sung and his team have designed this pop-up pavilion. "We have had to conceive the design of the pavilion taking into account the very short construction time, the short life span of the restaurant and the need for it to return to the original state of the Truman Brewery shortly after the event," explains Sung.

In some ways it's a project about resourcefulness. The dramatic 147 sqm site is constructed using materials borrowed from Vonsung's existing project sites. "We are interested in how each project can develop from its own unique set of circumstances," says Sung. "Our mission was to search for the way materials ought to be."

Scaffolding is clad in Bolon woven vinyl, with walls made from Valchromat engineered coloured wood, creating two spaces - bar and cafe/restaurant. The eating area features the Peggy Table series from SCP designed by Pearson Lloyd and chairs by Modus.

For Sung this is also an exercise in how branding can be part of a restaurant project - "down to the tiniest details of our packaging and utensils."

looks a little dull and dated - is it recycled materials or just borrowed ?

What a pity that it is temporary. I love the recycling element.

Very sleek.  Pop-up restaurants are getting more sophisticated than permanent ones!  Can't wait to see this pavilion during LDF!

Went there for dinner last night. Serious piece of architecture, very impressive. Not a pop-up at all as it looks like it belongs inside the old truman brewery.

I love the textile field, especially after walking and standing 4 hours in the V&A. I'd love to see it stay, and possibly with a few more vibrant colours added to the palette. Mian

I went to John Pawson's exhibition at Design museum last year.
His sophisticated works were very impressive and inspiring.
I am looking forward to seeing this installation very much.

I like it very much!
It is much easier to find an exact place and information.
I will surely use this calendar for LDF this year!

It collaborated very well with installantion of Ron Arad called curtain call at Roundhouse.

I love this calendar - it's really comprehensive and completely relevant. It's the first place I go when looking for something to do at the weekend. Thanks LDF!
