Create Academy will be in residence at Anthropologie’s King’s Road Gallery hosting a series of design workshops, talks, open studios & exhibitions with leading creatives & designers including Micaela Sharp, Molly Mahon, Kate Watson-Smyth, Maria Sigma, Julius Arthur, Jess Wheeler, Bex Partridge & Melissa Richardson.

Anthropologie is collaborating with Create Academy’s impressive roster of instructors to celebrate the joy of design & creative learning with a series of workshops, talks, demos and pop-up studios at their King’s Road Gallery throughout London Design Festival. Featuring zero-waste weaver Maria Sigma, textile designer Molly Mahon, quilter Julius Arthur, metalworker Jess Wheeler, dried floral artist Bex Partridge & flower pressing studio JamJar Edit. See below for the workshops on offer, and when each artist takes over the gallery. All pop-up shops are open Monday - Saturday 10am - 7pm, and Sunday 12 - 6pm. Create Academy Design talk with Kate Watson-Smyth, Micaela Sharp & Molly Mahon Event: 22 Sep, 6-8pm Join Create Academy’s instructors Kate Watson-Smyth, upholsterer & interior designer Micaela Sharp & textile designer Molly Mahon for an evening of drinks and design inspiration. Chaired by interiors journalist Fiona McCarthy, the talk will explore each designer’s unique approach to creating brave interiors, be that through pattern, colour or upcycling. Collaging with Textiles with Julius Arthur Pop-up: 17-18 Sep Workshop: 17 Sep, 2-5pm Create Academy’s ‘Guide to Contemporary Quilting’ instructor Julius Arthur will teach you how to collage using old clothes scraps in this introductory 3-hour quilting workshop. Learn how to use a range of stitching techniques to create a unique composition that you can hand quilt and bind to turn into a small artwork. Weaving from Waste with Maria Sigma Pop-up: 20-21 Sep Workshop 1: 20 Sep, 10-12pm Workshop 2: 21 Sep, 2-4pm A taster of Maria’s upcoming Create Academy weaving course set to launch in Spring ‘23, this 2-hour workshop offers an intensive grounding in hand-weaving, teaching you the basics of frame weaving & how you can turn your household waste textiles into woven masterpieces. The Art of Block Printing with Molly Mahon Pop-up: 22 Sep Workshop: 22 Sep, 2-4pm Experience the joy of block printing with renowned printmaker Molly Mahon. In this 2-hour workshop Molly will introduce you to this ancient craft showing you how to experiment with colour & pattern using carved floral wooden blocks & eco paints to create your own set of hand-printed stationery. Delicate Wreath Making with Bex Partridge Pop-up: 1-2 Oct Workshop 1: 1 Oct, 2-3:30pm Workshop 2: 2 Oct, 11-12:30pm Ahead of Bex Partridge’s Create Academy course launching in Spring ‘23 you can learn about sustainable floristry & how to work with dried flowers in this 1.5-hour creative workshop. Using wild flowers & foliage grown & dried by Bex in her beautiful Devon garden, you will be taught how to craft your own delicate everlasting dried flower wreath. The Art of Making Flowers Using Metal with Jess Wheeler Pop-up: 23-24 Sep Workshop 1: 23 Sep, 2-3pm Workshop 2: 24 Sep, 2-3pm A taster of Jess’ upcoming Create Academy metalwork course that launches this Winter, this 1-hour workshop will show you how to transform thin sheet brass & wire into beautiful, delicate everlasting florals. Choose from a selection of leaves & flowers to study, then learn how to recreate these in brass using embossing, debossing, metal cutting & shaping techniques. Flower Pressing With JamJar Edit Pop-up: 28-30 Sep Workshop 1: 30 Sep, 10-11am Workshop 2: 30 Sep, 2-3pm Ahead of Melissa Richardson’s Create Academy course launching next year, you can experience an introduction to the art of flower pressing in this hands-on 1-hour workshop. Discover JamJar’s methods for successfully pressing seasonal flowers & retaining their colour, & design your own brass framed floral artwork using pre-pressed garden flowers. Should you wish to pursue the art of flower pressing at home, presses will be available to purchase.
